without really noticing what we\u2019re doing.<br>We only feel it when something starts to hurt, when certain parts of our body have already been \u201cnot participating\u201d for a while, staying stiff or working against us.<\/p><p>Many complaints arise because we don\u2019t notice that a movement stops somewhere, or that we\u2019re blocking parts of ourselves. in almost everything you do.<br>Yet many people unconsciously hold their torso \u2014 rib cage, spine, diaphragm \u2014 tight. Sometimes out of habit, sometimes because of emotion, sometimes simply because they don\u2019t know any other way. <\/p><p>When the torso is allowed to move along, everything changes:<\/p><ul><li>breathing becomes freer<\/li><li>movement becomes lighter<\/li><li>balance becomes more stable<\/li><li>emotions can flow more smoothly<\/li><\/ul><p>And you can\u2019t make rotational movements without involving the torso. That\u2019s why rotations are so important. This can cause back complaints, sometimes even herniated discs. <\/p><p>When the thoracic spine does participate:<\/p><ul><li>the ribs gain more freedom of movement<\/li><li>the rib cage has more space<\/li><li>pressure on the lower back decreases<\/li><li>and movement in general becomes easier<\/li><\/ul><p>A free rib cage is often <a href=\"https:\/\/www.feldenkraisutrecht.nl\/en\/five-myths-about-posture-part-1\/\">a key factor for neck<\/a>, shoulder, hip, and knee complaints as well.<\/p><p>That\u2019s why I chose two rotational movements as free audio lessons:<br>one lying on your side and one sitting.<\/p><p>They open exactly the area that is most restricted for many people with complaints.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-1d7b295 elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"1d7b295\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h2 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">Moving lying down: working with as little \u201cposture\u201d as possible<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-d08d8a1 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"d08d8a1\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>When you\u2019re lying down, you don\u2019t have to do any work to hold yourself upright.<br>The floor supports you, allowing the muscles that are normally busy with being upright to relax and become part of the movement.<\/p><p>That\u2019s why the body can start cooperating much faster when lying down.<br>Sitting is more challenging, but precisely for that reason important \u2014 because we spend a large part of our lives sitting.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t<section class=\"elementor-section elementor-top-section elementor-element elementor-element-b793aff elementor-section-boxed elementor-section-height-default elementor-section-height-default\" data-id=\"b793aff\" data-element_type=\"section\" data-e-type=\"section\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-container elementor-column-gap-default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-column elementor-col-100 elementor-top-column elementor-element elementor-element-8c7f413\" data-id=\"8c7f413\" data-element_type=\"column\" data-e-type=\"column\">\n\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-wrap elementor-element-populated\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-f9e5b1d elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"f9e5b1d\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h2 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">How to get the most out of these two lessons<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-bdd62fe elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"bdd62fe\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>If you want to work only with these two audio lessons, it works well to:<\/p><ul><li>start with the lying rotational movement<\/li><li>do it daily for a while<\/li><li>sometimes with the audio, sometimes without<\/li><li>sometimes the whole lesson, sometimes just a part of it<\/li><li>then occasionally add the sitting lesson<\/li><li>and alternate based on need and attention<\/li><\/ul><p>Stop when you notice you\u2019re no longer really feeling; start again when curiosity returns.
